Nothing kicks off the Holiday season like West Nipissing’s Parade of Lights. No matter how busy Santa gets at this time of year, he always makes an appearance – and puts smiles on thousands of faces in the process.
Santa and over 35 other parade floats took off from the West Nipissing Complex around 6:30 pm on Friday, Dec. 6, and then looped around Michaud, Ethel, King and finally Queen Streets, putting Holiday cheer in the air for thousands of spectators who lined the parade route.
This year’s weather was great compared to last year’s freezing temperatures, and little ones were laughing and scrambling for treats as the procession went by, many handing out goodies. It was a treat for the eyes as well, with lights, sirens, dancers, singers, and even famous characters like Anna and Elsa and the Minions. Even the old Grinch took part – albeit against his will, behind bars on the Crimestoppers float! West Nipissing’s police mascot Koda was there too, newly outfitted in his OPP uniform, as the OPP marshaled in the parade with their truck and float and even a tiny cruiser.
