Canada Post’s rotating strikes struck West Nipissing last Friday, as post offices throughout the area were closed for 24 hours.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has been holding rotating strikes throughout the country in hopes of gaining a new contract with improved working conditions.

It was impossible to miss the workers protesting in Sturgeon Falls, as their signs were held high and their chants echoed, prompting many drivers to honk their encouragement. 

“We’ve had plenty of people honk, show great support, come talk to us and share encouraging words. Everyone’s been very supportive. We’re not trying to completely disrupt postal services,” said Amanda Lafleur, a postal worker who has a route in Sturgeon Falls. “But we also want to stand our ground, and educate the public.”
