West Nipissing Remembers

Fourteen youngsters got to spend the day with some local heroes and do a little Christmas shopping last Friday, Dec. 15, during the 9th annual Shop with a Cop event.

The day sees West Nipissing Police Services (WNPS) officers volunteer their time to bring kids shopping for Christmas gifts, after enjoying a lunch of pizza and sharing some laughs and fun with Koda, the police mascot. Two students from each school in the area are selected, based on need, to attend the event.

Police raise funds throughout the year and provide each kid with up to $150 to spend on gifts and toys of their choosing, anywhere in the community.

“Another great year,” beamed WNPS Const. Michel Paquette, one of the main organizers of the event. “The kids enjoyed the pizza, and had a ton of fun.”

For the last few years, a good portion of the funding has come from Le Taxi’s summer BBQ, which raised nearly $5,000 last year.
