Over 150 people celebrated an early Mardi Gras at the Marcel Noel Hall last Saturday, Feb. 4, as the Conseil des arts de Nipissing Ouest (CANO) and the West Nipissing General Hospital Foundation (WNGHF) joined forces for a “Mardi Gras Casino Night” fundraiser.

The event featured a dozen gambling tables where attendees could wager their $20,000 of “fun money,” which came with their ticket. Many tested their luck in games of roulette, poker and more, making trips back and forth from the dance floor, silent auction tables  and appetizer trays. Of course, the luckiest of them all was Suzanne Bédard of Warren, who won the grand prize draw of a trip for two to New Orleans, famous for its Mardi Gras celebrations!

While the evening’s profits had not yet been tabulated at press time, the sale of tickets at $50 a person or two for $90, the gambling tables and silent auction no doubt generated thousands for the two organizations.

Cynthia Desormiers, WNGH CEO, is happy with the brand new event.

“It was excellent! It’s an exciting new partnership for us and it’s a new concept in town and I think it was a great success. We had a bad storm that night but we still managed to pack the hall with over 150 people. It looked like everyone had a great time. We had some great comments from people attending and we’re hoping to hold the event again next year,” she beams.
