The first ever Light Up West Nipissing contest has the whole area decked out in Holiday cheer, and organizers are delighted with how the inaugural event turned out.
“I myself have been out driving with my kids and I’m seeing more lights than I ever have before,” says Sabrina Bradley, one of the organizers. “The comments, private messages and people I’ve been talking to just in town, have all been saying it is incredible how many more lights they’ve been seeing. I don’t know if it’s a direct result of our contest, but either way, we’ll take it. I think the Christmas spirit is alive and well this year and we’re pretty happy about that.”
In total, 118 addresses submitted their decorations for consideration across three categories (there were no submissions for the barn class).
Melissa Lynn Jarbeau got the most votes in the house category. Clothilde Sylvestre won for best apartment decorations and DJ and Sons Construction had the top lights for local businesses. Each winner will get a drone photo of their decorated space taken by RiverWolf Entertainment and printed by Sturgeon Falls Printing.
There were also 42 prizes awarded through a random draw held on Dec. 14. Bradley says 90 per cent of the prizes have already been claimed.
