Nearly 100 kids showed up for the 33rd annual Club Richelieu and WN Police Service (WNPS) bike rodeo, which was held at the Sturgeon Falls Recreation Centre last Saturday, May 27.
The free event, which promotes the importance of bike safety, features five different challenges including a figure 8, a balance test, safely crossing a 4-way stop, and navigating around cones. Participating kids are marked on how they perform at the stations, and the top earners win a trophy while every child takes home a prize.
“It’s a fantastic event for the little ones in the community,” raved WNPS Chief Chuck Seguin. “It’s an event that promotes safety, that reinforces not only bicycle skills but always the rules of the road. WNPS officers had the opportunity to circulate amongst the kids, adjusting helmets and speaking with parents who were overseeing everything. It’s a wonderful event and my hat goes off to Club Richelieu for hosting it for 30-plus years!”
This year’s trophy winners included Camille Deschatelets, 4, Andrea Larocque, 10, Janelle Brûlé, 11, Zachary Dubuc, 8, Kayla Leblanc, 6, Cédric Denis-Ayotte, 5, Jacob Lepage, 8, Alyssa Harris, 8, and Mathieu Dupuis, 12. The lucky bike winners were Andrée-Anne Giguère, 9, and Elijah Houlton, 6.
