Lots of local talent at ladies’ bonspiel

You could hear the 80’s dance music from Front Street on Feb. 1 to 3, as the Sturgeon Falls Curling Club held its annual Ladies Bonspiel with a 1980s’ theme. Sixteen teams participated in the event, with only one team from out of town – a great showing for the club.

“We haven’t had a 16 team ladies bonspiel in over 5 years,” said organizer and longtime club member Karen Pigeau. “So the usual two day event turned into a three day event, starting on Friday evening. It was a great time! The theme this year was 1980s... so as you can only imagine a lot of teams came out with bright neon colours, and some even came in their full rock and roll attire. Overall, I think it was a smash success!”

The event featured the traditional dance on Saturday, and also included many cash and door prizes for participants. While there was lots of fun to be had, the action on the rink was quite competitive, putting local curling talent front and centre.
