It was a time for reminiscing and catching up with old friends over the weekend of Sept. 15, as the first ever West Nipissing Public School reunion brought together former classmates from near and far.
The event was several months in the making as a committee, headed by Barb Chartrand, decided to call on all students who attended any of the local public schools in the 1960s to get together. At first, they were hoping for 70 odd people to show up, but they were quickly blown away by the interest. In the end, 180 people attended the event and filled the Legion hall on Saturday, Sept. 16.
“It was more than excellent. The cooperation from the Legion, the businesses in town, all the people who showed up who hadn’t been here in some 50 years... it was just great. The municipality also supported us greatly. I was very proud of West Nipissing on the weekend. Councillor [Guilles] Tessier also attended and greeted everyone, he did a great job!”
People from all around Northern Ontario, many corners of Canada, the United States and even Australia made the trip home, relishing the opportunity to meet up with old school friends.
