Class of 2020 / Bravo aux Diplômés
For the 10th year in a row, the Sturgeon Falls Complex played host to International Women’s Day celebrations on March 6, as over 350 women came together to celebrate local business, feminism, partnership and community.
For Linda Lafantaisie Renaud, Director of the Horizon Women’s Centre and event organizer, it was a special day, celebrating a decade of unity. “Ten years ago I thought what I think now; it’s important to celebrate women,” she shared. “Working at the shelter, being a feminist, it was exciting to celebrate on International Women’s Day! Back then, there were capacity building grants so (…) the event costs would be covered. Alongside all of us getting together, we’d also have a variety of small businesses and organizations showing up with booths and receiving promotion. This was the first year we hosted the event without that grant, and thanks to the great people at the municipality who helped organize, and gave us the hall for free, as well as the Caisse Alliance who paid the vendors’ fee as well as the $3 entry fee for all visitors, it enabled us to once again host the event at no cost to the shelter, which is an incredible help. We are so thankful!”
