It’s all ‘smiles’ at Horizon Women’s Centre after another successful year for the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign.

“It means a huge relief for us because it’s really hard to fundraise and we wouldn’t be able to raise that amount of money in that time, especially during COVID,” recognizes Linda Lafantaisie Renaud, director of Horizon Women’s Centre. She explains that the money raised will be a major help for clients of the shelter, as “We don’t have extra funds in our budget for certain client needs (…) like medication and clothing.”

Often, women fleeing violence arrive in the middle of the night without any personal belongings or hygiene products, she points out. The funds raised through the campaign will also help purchase clothing for children, activities and school supplies.

The Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign has been raising money for charity for 24 years, with participating restaurants donating all the proceeds from the sale of smiley-faced chocolate chip cookies for an entire week.

For the second year, the two Tim Hortons locations in Sturgeon Falls selected the Horizon Women’s Centre as the beneficiary.
