Students who make a difference

Nearly 150 runners and walkers of all ages headed to the West Nipissing General Hospital on Saturday morning, May 4, to help raise funds for the Hospital Foundation. Participants took part in a 1-mile, 5 km or 10 km run around the community, in the 7th annual Run 4 Health fundraiser.

The sun was shining bright for the event, and Hospital CEO Cynthia Desormiers commented that it was the first sunny day for the race in many years.

“The event went really well, overall it was a great success,” she beamed. “We had fantastic weather for the first time in a long time. We had 148 participants take part in our race, with many little ones from White Woods and Jeunesse Active joining us once again this year.”

The race has become a staple in West Nipissing – as many residents look forward to participating annually and even challenge each other, some joining in groups.

“I think it’s due to all the great partnerships we have within the community. We have solid partnerships with the schools, and the children then bring out parents and grandparents, which turns it into a family event. This year, with it falling on May 4, we even had a Star Wars theme with quite a few people and teams that dressed up. It was very cool to see!”
