Cache Bay was a hotspot on Saturday, May 26, as 400 anglers participated in the 36th annual Sturgeon Falls Rod and Gun Club Pike Fishing Tournament. With over 900 pike caught, including ten over 30”, organizers were thrilled with this year’s tournament.

“It was a great day of fishing,” said organizer Alex Savage. “We had a full field of 200 boats, with two anglers per team.”

The tournament kicked off at 7:30 a.m. and boats were on the water until 4:30 p.m., returning for the weigh-ins.

This year’s big winners were Sudbury’s Eric and Nicole Pelland, who took home a whopping $12,000 for their catches measuring a total of 407.40 cm. The couple also had the event’s biggest pike, measuring 83.40 cm, adding $3,780 to their winnings.

Second place went to Sudbury’s Marc Branning and Niel MacDonald, with 396.60 cm in total catches, who took home a tool package valued at over $8,000. Third place went to West Nipissing’s Michel and Mathew Rifou, who caught fish totaling 395 cm and earned an outdoors package worth $5,000.
