Two West Nipissing residents were among twenty exceptional volunteers recently recognized by Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré. The honour was bestowed just before the Holidays, when Serré handed out pins and certificates of recognition to the deserving volunteers in a special ceremony held Dec. 18 in Val Caron. Cynthia Guindon of Verner and Cyrille Grenier of Sturgeon Falls made the trip out.

The recipients were selected through a grassroots initiative, with residents of Nickel Belt invited to submit nominations for candidates of all ages who had made a positive difference in the lives of an individual or group. Guindon and Grenier were natural choices, according to Serré.

“Cynthia Guindon has made a significant impact on her community. She has been a volunteer firefighter for the last 5 years, she volunteers with the Verner Minor Hockey Association and as a trainer for the novice team, and she is on the Board of Directors for the 2019 Verner Plowing Match. Thank you for caring for your community and for all you hard work,” he declared.
