West Nipissing residents bought over 17,000 cookies last week, and the only thing sweeter than that is the astounding sum those cookie sales raised for a local charity.
The Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign reached heights never before seen in its 9-year history, with the special $1 cookie, available only one week of the year, selling out at both local restaurants. The result was $17,605 in proceeds going to Community Living West Nipissing, to help adults with developmental disabilities realize their potential.
Community Living Executive Director Sylvie Belanger couldn’t believe the community’s support this year.
“It’s unreal to think that that many cookies were sold! Amazing is the only way I can describe it,” she beamed. “It’s amazing... it’s awesome! The partnership with Tim Hortons is wonderful and they’ve been so supportive to Community Living over the years. The Smile Cookie Campaign runs smoothly every year. Everybody loves cookies, so it’s an easy sell!”
Sell is just what the organization does, in order to ensure the success of the campaign. Community Living contacts local businesses and organizations well ahead of time to purchase cookies, and offers to deliver them wherever they are destined to go. Many businesses buy just to support the cause, and give the cookies away to the food bank, Au Château or other happy recipients.
